How about all Americans who are opposed to the high price of Gas take a day off work next week - and strike to

show their disgust with the government and the oil companies who are evidently doing nothing to relieve us at the pump! I am certain that if millions of people would just go on strike to oppose the high gas prices the government and the oil companies would certainly take notice of them! New to the Accounting field - Don't give up your day job!

  1. Not real smart. Think of it - many hourly employees would not be paid, so their paycheck would be smaller. Many businesses would lose sales, so their businesses, and employee paychecks would suffer. In an economy as bad as ours, that would be like pour gasoline (no pun intended) on a fire.
  2. Why dont they down grand to smaller cars? Flash and thats about it!
  3. In my state many companies are going to a 4-day work week, 10 hours per day. This says money in two ways, (1) one less day of traveling and (2)driving in off-peak hours which is more fuel efficient than the stop and go of rush hour. I wish my company would do that!
  4. the government is not supposed to "relieve you at the pump" that's the deal with freelance capitalism and economy, it's a freaking butchery out there. And oil companies can't do anything either? don't you know how the whole prices works out? If your material becomes pricier, then the final product becomes more expensive. It's like that for everything, including gas. So why don't you, and your striking colleagues don't go down to the OPEP and complain to THEM that the oil barril is so expensive, and that's why gas is expensive? Why don't you go down to problematic oil countries and try to help them be less problematic, so the oil barril is not that expensive? You may try that, but honestly, I don't think you would achieve anything. Since I suppose you don't expect oil companies to sell at loss, just as you wouldn't work to earn nothing, try to find out more about how the whole system works before calling out for a pointless strike, that would only cause harm to the economy and the people. Perhaps it would work out more if you call people to get off their Hummers and drive a smart car instead, or a fuel efficient compact :) Good Luck!
  5. Lost work and productivity isn't the answer. Changing long term behavior is. Lobby for telecommuting if possible. Walk or bike to work. Take public transportation. Use less electricity (many power plants use fossil fuels). Recycle. Plant a vegetable garden. We all have to work on this and we have to get real about understanding that peak oil is upon us. Prices will continue to rise. We need to work NOW on alternative, sustainable solutions
  6. More economic desruption=more economic chaos.
  7. Oh sure, we all take the day off and go to the tavern and drink beer. That drives up the demand for beer and pretty soon the price of beer will sky rocket. Then what?
