Security Options for Apartment?
I am a single mother with a 6 year old and a 3 year old and live in a very small, cheaply built apartment with non-existant security. I have permission from my landlord (at my own expense, of course) to do some upgrades, but I am at a loss as to what to do. We live in a bad neighborhood for our area (upper middle-class,predominately white town of 3000), where the crime is mostly drug addicts looking for things to steal to make a quick buck or trade for drugs, or bored kids. Being a single mother, I am very concerned for my children's safet, seeing as we have several in the area that are on the sex offenders list. I have a lab who sat on the front porch and watched my car without me, so I know that he is useless in this situation. Thanks.

- Start with windows and sliding glass doors (if present). They sell braces, or you can simply cut a wooden board to length. Place these between the park of the window that opens, and the window frame. These are a favorite amongst thieves, and the brace will prevent the window from being forced open. If you don't have some sort of deadbolt, that's necessary. Also keep your shades closed whenever you're not home, and a light on. Don't give them any reason to break in like having a big screen tv visible through the windows.
- heavy entrance doors 2 dead bolts on each door. a sturdy rod like a shower rod in the windows and balcony door lots of lights on in the house no bushes around windows where burglars can be hidden don't keep a lot of expensive things ......quick things to make a buck out in the open where they can be seen from the windows good luck and be safe
