What's the best home study course for option trading? Good morning everyone. Okay, I've been trading stocks for about 3 years now and have become interested in option trading. I've noticed a lot of good online home study courses but just don't know which one would do me justice. Has anybody had any success with one of these programs for a beginner option trader ?
What broker would you recommend for trading options? I recently took a course in trading options and have placed a few contracts. I use Fidelity investments Active Trader Pro but would like to know if there are better platforms than this one and if the brokers are reputable with good support assistance. Thanks! Thanks for all your help everyone!

What are the tax implications of options trading? If I use an option straddle strategy, and I bring in $100K over the course of the year but I lose $90K on the other side of the straddle, do I pay taxes on the $100K, or only on the $10K that I actually came away with? If I have to pay tax on the $100K, am I only allowed to deduct the max allowed loss of $3K? Thanks!
Can someone suggest a stock trading course that works. ? I have been studying stocks and options such as call and puts, covered calls and so on. I am ready to study these areas in more detail but am not sure which product to purchase. So far I have been offered courses from Better Trades, Investools, Rich Dad Stock Success. Does anyone know which course may be the best course out of the three mentioned above?
What is the minimum capital needed for forex, options and futures trading ? Free and recommended simulators ? Hello guys, I'm interested in learning more about forex, options and futures trading. I heard that there are mini or micro account that can go as little as US$ 200 or 300 dollar. Is it true ? Also, any recommendations for free forex, options and futures trading simulators ? I know that some websites provide this service but usually the virtual capital is too high (10K or up), and I want to set the initial capital to small amount like US$ 300 or 500. If possible, is there any recommendations for courses/books ? I'm not aiming for those "fancy" amount of income, several thousand/month is OK. Of course I'm not looking for courses that cost hundreds or thousands of dollars... Thanks for the input. I agree that it's a bit too much to expect thousands of returns for such a small amount of capital. But, if I expect my capital which is around 300 or 500 to be doubled by around 1-2 month. Doesn't is sound possible ???? My plan is actually something like this : The capital will be 300 or 500. The goal is to double the capital by around 1 - 2 mounth(s). When I have more money, I will buy more lots... To make it safer, every time I manage to double the previous capital, I will do one more time before I plan to use more capital to trade. It will be something like this (US$500 capital) : 500 - 1000 - 1000 (don't use for trading) - 2000 - 2000(don't use for trading) - 4000 and so on ... Now the problem is to find the system that are able to do this... Any recommendations ? I personally distrust systems that cost hundreds or thousands or dollars. There are simply too many scams...
What are the requirements to trade options if you use an online broker like Scottrade? Im a 21 college student and have decided to take a small amount of risk in the market, perhaps trading options. I have an account with the online broker Scottrade that has a value > 25000. I turned in the paperwork for trading options. So if I were to invest a small amount of my portfolio into a call option for (X) tomorrow morning, what steps do i need to take (besides filling out the order form i know how to do that)? Do I have to own shares in (X)? Also it's a $1.25 per contract, so does that mean for each single option I buy it cost $1.25? I just started a course in investments and will learn more about options later this semester, I just want a head start and possibly make some money. Thank You.
Viable Options Trading Strategy? Hi Relatively new to options trading. When trading Options / Equities, is it generally profitable to look for companies with upcoming results, and formulate a straddle to profiteer from shifts both ways? Assuming of course they meet decent volatility and volume standards. I've never tried this, but am curious about how the success ration would actually work out based on the last couple of years.
Where to find the best options trading information? I need to write a paper for a course at school. The topic I chose is Options trading. The prof told me he knows a lot about options, and that he wants to see a, for example, report on a Theory of Options Trading. What are some good books, sites, anything that I can read/study so I may write a great paper? I want to spin the paper towards this direction- How to profit from buying and selling Call and Put contract... By using delta, moneyness, etc.. Please advise/help. I appreciate it! TIM
Options trading in the US? I'd like to start trading in the Options market but I have a long way to study before I start. I have several books written by various authors and the optionetics videos and books from ebay. I would appreciate some advice please. I live in Australia and 1 options contract is for 1000 shares which of course is significantly greater than the 100 share contracts in the US. I would like to trade on the US options market (eventually - after much research) but where do I go to begin? Thanks in advance. Sorry, I don't mean what books and programs should I get but where I should actually go to trade and look at the movements? Eg in Australia it's the ASX or Australian Stock Exchange so the US might be the CBOE??
Trading Course or Training Available? I am new to stock trading. Is there any recommendation for a good school (online or in san jose, california) that i can take to understand more about financial terms, about options and on....?
Where can I find an advisor for a career in options trading? I think I would like to have my next career be as a self employed options trader. After a 14 year career in the Engineering and IT world I moved last year into a career in finance, specifically as a commercial lending officer for a large credit union ($1.5B.) My education career started in Engineering (including 19 hours of Calculus and linear algebra) but my actual undergrad is a BBA. My IT education includes 4 advanced self taught certifications. I started investing in CD's, stocks and bonds in 1990, added covered call options in 2000 and long call options in 2005. Even though I had never worked in the finance field, my amateur interest in the financial markets is great enough that senior management asks me my opinion on current issues and trends because of my constant exposure. As part of my job requirement I will be starting an MBA in September and my course of study is up to me as long as I am working on the graduate degree. Due to my pre-existing interest, heavy coursework in finance, securities and financial math would not be unusual. For political reasons I have to stay in this job for 4 years but I effectively have the opportunity, means and permission to rebuild myself with an eye toward starting on a career in the world of options should I so desire. I know that during my studies I could ask the professors and advisors about this but I would much rather find someone who is actually doing this to help me structure my courses and studies (formal and self taught) so that while I am being paid to learn I can be learning the things to help me most. As some here have seen (and answered my questions) I have at least some understanding of options trading. I have found what I think it an effective day trading strategy but it has the significant problems of being unable to scale and requiring constant attention to prevent being on the wrong side of a trend. I need to really learn to do spreads and other long term positions so I can make thousands on a longer term position instead of the $100 per round trip in 15 minutes I target today and not have to watch every minute move from 9:30 to 4:00 all day worrying about missing an instantaneous buying or selling opportunity. I would very much appreciate it if somebody who has had success in the area of options investing can help me to learn what I need to learn to have the mental tools and experience to be able to seek a career in this arena or barring direct help, help me to find someone who can guide me on this. I don't think I am asking for a lot of someone's time but I certainly think it can't hurt to ask for some help rather than waste money on books or seminars flailing about trying to find that one needle in the haystack of information otherwise uselss to me. Feel free to contact me directly should you be so inclined. Thanks in advance for any help provided.
Day trading SPY options: How can I do this better? (Long question)? (Note: I have real money experience with options going back to 2000, first covered calls in my IRA and then long calls in my cash account though no day trading experience with real money. I have the 25K to park in an account to satisfy the pattern day trader rules and another 10K to make the actual contract purchases.) I have a job that allows me to keep an eye on the real time stock market. Starting in January I started playing with the Virtual Trading engine at OptionXpress, daytrading options on SPY. My strategy is rather modest; I buy 5-10 ITM contracts, either put or call depending on market direction, and sell when I see the trend reverse. I chose 10 contracts because I believe that with an order size that small, if I submit a sell order at the bid it should fill immediately unless the market is moving very fast allowing me to lock in a profit if the trend reverses. I open one position at a time, I never leave my desk with an open position and I am 100% cash at market close every day. I use SPY because being a basket of 500 stocks it is buffered from sudden drastic moves in price giving me time to get out of a position with minimal loss if the price goes the wrong way on me. My immediate goal is $100 after commissions per round trip, a target that requires only a $0.15 move in option price. I don't always guess right on direction, 4 out of 5 is typical, and I am netting between $400 and $500 a day on 6-7 round trips. My $5000 initial play money stake has grown to about $15,000 since 1/19 when I started doing this seriously. I won't get rich doing this but over the course of a year that is an extra person's worth of income for my family. If it lets me do nothing more than pay off my house and fund future college for my 3 kids it is worth it. Now that I have proven to myself that this seems to be a reasonable strategy I am trying to understand what I can do better and am now in the area of "I don't know what I don't know." I know about Level 2 quotes but if these are something that can help me I am not clear how to use them. I know that there are all sorts of indicators that technical traders use but I don't know if these scale down to the day trading level. I know about the existence of the Greeks, and while I understand roughly what the numbers and equations mean, I don't know if these will help me on positions lasting 15 minutes or less. My main interest in posting this question is to find out if there are tools I can use to help me make better choices about getting in or out of a position or tell me more about what the market is doing. This strategy seems to be working okay and if I can translate this to real money I will consider myself successful. I don't want to be greedy but I certainly would like to know if I can do what I am already doing more effectively. I spent time on 888options and optionetics.com but it seems much of the content out there deals with strategies like spreads, butterflies and condors, things that simply don't apply to what I am doing. I know there are options day traders, even some specializing in SPY, who read these questions, and I'd be appreciative if I even had a list of books or even just some things to go research and learn about that you have found helpful in your experience. Thanks for reading this far and any help y'all provide. I definitely understand the problem with fills; in fact, I asked a question about that here the other day. I had noticed that I could put in a sell at a price like 3.10 and a minute later see a bid/ask spread of 3.15/3.20 with my sell order still open. My only thought was "What the ****?!" I was told by another answerer that in reality, on an order that small an ask below the bid would never stay open on something as liquid as SPY. Regarding filling at the mid, on SPY I could live with this. The options on SPY move enough intraday that even if every buy order filled at the ask and and sold at the bid I'd still make money because I am looking for moves of .15 on options that can move .30 or more in a short time. I've gotten good enough at picking the trend direction that I will buy options that are 3 or 4 points ITM. This gets me my .15 or more move with only a small move in the price of SPY.
What is a reputable source (organization/school) for stock market and options play education? I am a beginner/intermediate stocks and options market trader. I have not formally taken any course or read any books on how to trade in the US/Canadian market. I would like to find a reputable school/organization, in Vancouver, British Columbia or available online, that offers/teaches techniques on how to trade stocks and options. In person lectures are preferred; online courses are okay too. In addition, please supply a shortlist of reputable books/texts.
www.tradeologists.com? Did you visit this new site with a free options trading course? - As they say: "You make money whether the market goes up, down or sideways"
Which trade for Marion would most benefit the Heat? Which one of the trade rumors going around would help out the Heat the most if it went through? Here are some that I heard of: Marion for Jermaine O'Neal Marion for Josh Howard Marion for Nate Robinson and David Lee Those are the main components of the trades, of course if any of them went through, there would be additional components to balance the salaries. If you have any other rumors or trade options feel free to say them.
Option trading in Scottrade - difference between "buy to open, buy to close, sell to close, and sell to open" I'd like to try investing in Options, but it asks me if I want to "buy to open, buy to close, sell to open, and sell to close". Which one basically means "hold the option until it expires, and then automatically sell it?" (assuming I make money, of course) By the lingo, I would think sell to open, but I guess that's why I'm asking. Which open option do I use where I don't want to buy the common stock when it expires?
trading dwight to the cavs? ok ive been thinking, what the cavs need to be a clear step above the celtics and the lakers is a quality big man, mo is turning into lebrons' pippen and of course we got lebron himself, but we kinda suck with our big men, ilgauskus/varejao/wallace are all ok but really they arent good enough for what the cavs need, so i was thinking they need to improve there. so they have two options: 1) do whatever it takes to get dwight from orlando, i know its a long shot but if the lakers could do something similar and put kobe and shaq together and keep them together for years then the cavs can do the same with lebron-dwight, maybe trade a combination of the above players and a whole lot of draft picks? 2) the more realistic but less exciting option, trade up in this year or next years draft to get a top quality rookie big man? what does everyone think? what quality big man should the cavs try and get and how should they do it, its all they need to be the top team of the next decade anthony, you do have a point but i'm thinking long term, zydrunas is 33, wallace is 34, they wont be around that much longer, the cavs need a center in his 20s to be there long term, as we get closer to lebrons contract expiring lbj will start thinking about his long term future and where hes gunna get 3-4-5 championships, and it wont be at a team whose starting C and PF are 33 and 34, they need a good young starting center if they want lebron to resign, because we all know whats most important to him is having a long term championship worthy supporting cast
Which is the hottest area of "Trading" (NOT Investing) at the moment & why? In other words, which Trading segment has the highest potential pay off compared to the amount of money at risk (assuming for the sake of assumption, of course, that you are equally knowledgeable and lucky in all): Would it be Forex, Options, Futures, etc. (Please specify + a brief reason why) Also which Trading strategy do you use or recommend for that market (please briefly elaborate). Thank You!

I tried to trade in my SUV and they told me I didn't have enough equity. What are my options? I have a 2006 Isuzu Ascender SUV. It is a 2WD. It has a little over 18,000 miles on it. I went to the dealership yesterday just to see if I was in a position to trade it in and of course they told me I was upside down. I have had it for a little over a year and I bought it brand new. I traded in an Acura (was leased) for this SUV and I hate it. It uses too much gas and I miss the way driving a car feels. The Acura dealership appraised the car and said it was worth about $14,000 but I owe like $23,000. They also said my credit score is still on the low side. I have made every car payment on time, but we just got a new house so maybe that pulled my rating down some. He suggested I wait one year to a year and half to get ride of the Isuzu. I think my interest rate is 17-18% and my payments are $573.46 for 72 months. I know, not the best deal at all but due to my credit situation and the fact that I had to trade in that lease I had no choice. What are my options, if any?
Is this how European style currency options work? Please help me understand/know more. Thanks.? I know about American style options which like European options give the buyer the right, but not the obligation to buy or sell an underlying security, e.g. stocks, commodities or currencies on or before the options expiration date at an agreed price, the strike price for American style options. European style can be exercised at expiry. I also know that American style options give the buyer (holder) or seller (writer) the right to hold 100x their initial capital, for example, if a stock is priced at £100/share to actually own 100x that stock would cost £10,000 in cash wheras as an equivalent position in options would only cost £100 because of 100x leverage + commissions of course. Now, I know that European style options on the other hand give you the right to hold a contract of 1000 of the underlying securities. What I would like to know is this; I know that trading currencies with American style options would give you for example "Cable" - GBP/USD, 100x leverage on your currency options position which at current would give you exposure to $15,984 at an exchange rate of $1.5984/£1 with £100 + commissions hence 100x leverage. Would European style options give you 1000x leverage on your money as a European options contract consists of 1000 of the underlying sucurity, for example, "Cable" - GBP/USD at $1.5984/£1; would this mean that with the same £100 that the American style currency options would give you which is 100x your money or $15,984, would this mean with the same £100 you could control 1000x your money, or $159,840 - £100,000 with European style currency options? Please help me understand them as I am not too sure about European style options. Thanks P.S. Sorry its so long.
I want to learn to trade ES contracts any suggestions? I currently trade options using Interactive Brokers, I know they are an ok options broker but not good for ES. The problem is that I am not sure who is good for ES and most importantly I want to know the best. I also want to find the best course for trading the mini S&P. Best answer with facts and citations will get the maximum stars. Also, will take suggestions on platforms, software, data vendors, charting software, etc. Thanks for your help. I appreciate those answers, but neither of you answered my questions. I asked for an answer with citations, with facts cited. Someone please point me in the right direction. To answer the comment about IB, IB does not give you any relevant information to help you trade daily. I guess I want professional answers not people doing the same thing I am doing. Any pros trading out there please help me and point me in the right direction.
Security Options for Apartment? I am a single mother with a 6 year old and a 3 year old and live in a very small, cheaply built apartment with non-existant security. I have permission from my landlord (at my own expense, of course) to do some upgrades, but I am at a loss as to what to do. We live in a bad neighborhood for our area (upper middle-class,predominately white town of 3000), where the crime is mostly drug addicts looking for things to steal to make a quick buck or trade for drugs, or bored kids. Being a single mother, I am very concerned for my children's safet, seeing as we have several in the area that are on the sex offenders list. I have a lab who sat on the front porch and watched my car without me, so I know that he is useless in this situation. Thanks.
Option Pricing for Citi? I am new to options trading so I don't know if I can explain what I am trying to figure out clearly. But any inputs would be much appreciated. When I checked during closing last Friday: C = 3.04 May C 3 Call was worth 0.41 I figured if you take the .04 of intrinsic value that would leave 0.37 of time value for this call. (0.41-0.04=0.37) However, as of closing today. C=3.8 May C 3 Call is now at 0.95 Again, I subtract the 0.8 intrinsic value from the premium we and are left with 0.15 of time value....(0.95-0.8=0.15) Does this mean that the time value has just depreciated by over 50% during the course of today's trading? Is it normal for an option to lose over 50% of time value during the course of three days?
Are people who have priviliged previewing access to calendar event data allowed to trade stocks or options? The idea that they would be allowed seems highly unethical, and of course, if they were to share actual data with acquaintances, that would be insider trading violation(s), would it not? Does the law treat these circumstances as such? Is there a priviliged element of our society that gets this information when the rest of us don't and can trade on a sure thing? I mean if I know that crude supply data will be low for a given day's reporting to the public, I can buy oil commodities or buy a large oil stock and be guaranteed at least a commensurate rise or lower in my profits accordingly in that commodity or stock. Other goods and services would also apply. So do we have people running our economy, subject to privilige of (not what you would call knowledge...implying that they surmised something from data) but from the actual data that others have calculated that I pay my taxes to collect the data and calculate, and that these people are using their unfair advantage to make money
How are you adjusting in the real estate industry with lenders falling? As a Realtor it is hard to even trust that a deal will close now-a-days with the lenders going out of business and leaving buyers stuck out at closing. This has been a terrible experience for me. Here in Houston mortgage brokers and loan officers are hurting and some are even given up. As a Realtor I have other options but rearranging my structure and client base will take me a minute to start building back up. It would be interesting to know how others in the real estate industry are doing these days. As the mortgage shakeout forces dozens of home lenders into bankruptcy, some are merely going into something like suspended animation -- shutting down temporarily and hoping to escape intact once the crisis has run its course. Published 12:00 am PDT Sunday, August 26, 2007 The total volume of subprime loans nationally fell less than 4 percent in 2006, even as defaults and foreclosures were starting to spike, according to data compiled by Credit Suisse. Some big lenders never really did apply the brakes: New Century's loan volume was down a mere 1.3 percent through the end of February, or about two weeks before trading in the company's stock was suspended. How to learn the very very very basics of stock, trading? To start off, I would like to introduce myself first. I am currently 18 years old, about to graduate from my school soon.I wish to help my family out financially and is lured by the seemingly 'fun' and lucrative world of trading. I know nuts about finance n stuff, and of course, have absolutely no idea on what is stocks, trading ..blah blah. But seriously, I wish to get a head start soon, attending professional talks on trading is not a viable option right now for some reasons, thus I wish to be able to learn the very very basics of stock n stuff..I tried searching the web on the basics but all i have gotten is concepts which are beyond my comprehension. I am asking if anyone know where to get good sites which offer fundamental insights on trading? Thanks alot !
Online broker? I consider myself a somewhat sophisticated investor and plan to trade options, commodities, short sell stocks and of course execute regular trades. I do not expect to trade derivatives (financial futures). I have a reasonably small amount of money to manage thus far--5 to 10 thousand. If I go for a high-end broker, I will lose too much on the commissions and fees. I do not need professional help, I do not need live support, I do not need their analysis. I need a cheap way to execute the above mentioned trades. -Thank you in advance for your considerate replies important detail I left out: I am not really interested in level 1 options. I am more interested in level 2-3. (3 being most preferable). I didn't mean sophisticated in that respect. I meant it in the way that I do more than just buy and sit. So who is the cheapest for writing up level 2 options?
Shares, commodities, options, emini's, forex? For many years I have wanted to start investing but education is holding me back. There is soooo much information available that it's difficult to sift the chaff from the grain and I get bogged down with a brain overload. I could do a course like Lifestyle trader which has components on all these areas but for $11,000 before you even place a trade, it seems incredibly steep, especially with no iron clad promise of success. I'd get a better warranty on a new kettle. So, my question requires a lot of thought from those who will answer. If you were to design a course educating rank newbies in shares, commodities, options, emini's and forex, where would you begin and how would you build on that information-references, websites, books etc. Remember you learn addition and subtraction before vectors and matrices so it's a slow build not sink or swim.

Which IT course, Which path to take ? Anyone can give me ideas about which IT course has the best prospects for finding a decent and well paid job in the field ? I have the blessing at the same time as the curse of being a Jack of all trades i.e. I can learn anything very quickly and have an interest in anything that’s directly or indirectly connected to IT and so I cannot make up my mind on one aspect and one speciality to make a carrier out of. My options amongst other things are as follow: Networking & computer repair, Web design, Video editing, Sound editing etc… just name it ! It’s funny because I never studied any of these in a class as I learned them by practice or from one of those …for dummies books (very handy by the way) Any ideas welcome just please tell me which has better prospects for the future of the industry and before you start pointing out that I should choose whichever excites me the most or makes me “happy” you should know I love all of them
Trading in CLK320 for a nicer car? I currently own a 2003 CLK 320 but I'm looking to trade up for a nicer car. The CLK has a black exterior, gray interior, and of course is a convertible. Car has been very nicely maintained. It is the "W208" body (the one before the newest look), but has all the options including nav. I'm looking for another Mercedes (or perhaps another high end maker) that looks a little fresher. I don't care if it's convertible or not and for that matter SUVs are okay also. The only condition is that I can probably only spend 10k more than I will get for the CLK. Anyway, please give me your suggestions, so far I'm looking at a used Range Rover or a CL600. Thanks, James
My partner has been offered a job as a tracer for a draftsman in an international company.? The field is electrical. He has no qualifications or experience. I've looked up a couple of courses at TAFE NSW and seem to come up with electrical engineering. Is electrical drafting part of or a sub branch of an electrical engineer? He would like to earn a diploma, eventually an advanced diploma, but what is the name of the diploma relevant to his job? To be accepted into the diploma, you must have a certificate 3 in either Engineering or Drafting Trades. Which is the best option? If he did Engineering 3, will that teach him drafting? Sorry for the long question, I'm just trying to get my head around this.
Career Options besides 9 to 5 in an office? Hello, I am at a completely life changed stage in my life, I am almost 30 and ready to quit the corporate world. I am looking for advice on other options than the headache of the system. I want to be my own boss but I dont want to work crazy hours as well, because I a single guy looking to have a life outside of work. I work in IT, which is the main reason I want out, its too specific and at the beck and call of the business. There has to be something else> has to, Im looking for something that maybe combines any outside work with an office, I am not beneath blue collar, but Im looking for a long tern career where I CONTROL MY MONEY, GET IT. Preferbly, no trades, contruction, outside sales, (Im not a people person, and you cant train that,it has to come natural) I have thought about : architecture, radio/tv, route sales, but I dont know how to enter these without any background in them, I have even thought about porn, yes thats how fed up with office work I am, To me nothing happens in a 9 to 5, because people just wait for their check and work 3 actual hours and bullshit the rest on the compauter/web because its there. Their is another way that is more flexible, has to be!!!!!!!!!!!! I also dont want gov/dangerours job like police, fire, hospital, and have no interest in healthcare(am scared of them). Also, not interested in education, I hate kids. altough the time off would be benificial. What about entertainment? acting, of course its risky but what do I have to lose? They will always be entertainment work, comics/performers travel the country, how can they lose their so called JOB, besides health issues? Overall, Im looking for work.life balance with freedom? which I know everyone wants, but I have to make it happen NOW, Im am 29, time is RIGHT NOW!!! HELP, ADVICE, Thoughts
